“AD-LIBERATOR”

After playing around with app inventor in class and seeing the infinite potential that it possesses, I decided to take the easy route. First I made an app that spawned a suspended ball, and every time you tapped on the ball its radius increased by +5. I made that in a few minutes then scrapped it because I hated it.

Then I had the idea of making a soundboard with well-known rappers faces as the buttons, and when you press their face one of their ad libs will play. The “coding” itself was super straight forward and didn’t take much time. However, everything outside of coding (the aesthetics and finding the artwork/audio files) took a lot more time than I had hoped.

Unfortunately I was unable to use the all of the rappers I wanted because I stole the 8 bit artwork from a sticker/poster website, and they had a limited amount of rappers available so I had to work with what I had in order to keep the art style consistent. Finding the audio files for the ad libs was definitely not worth the time it took. App Inventor also wouldn’t let me use files over a certain size, which was upsetting, and I still couldn’t find them for one rapper so I just put in a slide whistle sound effect instead. I also decided to add a little title page after I made the soundboard, but for some reason AppInventor doesn’t allow you to change the order in which the screens pop up so now my app has an unreachable easter egg title screen.

My app works as intended but I’m not too proud of it honestly, especially after finding a website that is basically the same exact thing but with more options. I enjoyed making it though, and that’s all that really matters right?

“INTRODUCTIONS”

My name is Scott Early and I am from Sarasota, FL. I’m a computer science major, and I chose cs because I enjoy problem solving, critical thinking and working/learning by myself. I’m not sure what career path I want to take after college but I’d like to be able to travel for extended periods of time wherever I’m feeling (aka have money/freedom.) When I’m awake I’m usually listening to music, and I dream of making a perfect album and never releasing it.

Looking ahead, I’m hyped to be taking this class. I’m less hyped about potentially being publicly shamed by Lucas in front of the class, but that’s kinda good because it’ll force me to work harder. I used to be into new technologies when I was younger but I guess that childlike wonder I had died at some point since then. I’m hoping this class can bring that back since my major revolves around it. That Lucas guy has made it interesting so far.
